Walkstler

We have spent a lot of time surrounded by some nice looking mountains, and yesterday we decided it was time to climb one of them! It was also my coworker Mike's birthday, and a really sunny day. We targeted rainbow mountain and walked for about 2 hours from town just to get to the trailhead. From the trailhead it was an 8km (one way) hike with about 1km of elevation gain. The last few kilometers were very much snow covered, which we combated by putting plastic bags around our feet, but it didn't work very well! The entire adventure took us roughly 9 hours! Here are some pictures!

Snow Skateboarding!

When we are not excelling at our simple jobs we have been using our time to explore everything whistler has to offer.  As you might have guess this includes snowboarding.  The other day we went up with Dann and snapped a few pictures of our fun.  The weather was pretty cloudy but what what was lacking picture ability was made up it supergrabbing skills.  Make sure to note Dann's hand placement.

Whistler Action

Hey Everyone! Here's a quick little update on what me and ian are up to these days:

We settled down in whistler for a little while and picked up some fancy jobs. Ian has become an inspired and expert sandwich artist at a local specialty sandwich shop!

I (Ben) pursued an opportunity to become better acquainted with the intricacies of a finely prepared coffee!

We lived in a really smelly dirty hostel type place for the first 2 weeks, but it was really sketchy so we moved out pretty quick. Ian moved into the forest and found a nice little clearing outside whistler to camp, and I slept in my car a few nights but then decided to join Ian in the woods due to space restrictions, which lead to a very interesting experience this morning!

We were awoken by a big black bears nose sniffing the side of our tent! When he decided to venture on, we got ourselves out of the forest, but on the way we came across a different bear exploring the path. Once we safely got out to the road, we saw a third giant brown bear running around the same patch of forest! The whistler bear babysitters arrived shortly to try to get the bears away from the village, which also meant they would probably walk through the forest and find our quasi illegal sleeping arrangement, so we decided we should probably go back into the woods to take down our tent and get the heck outa there! We were pretty successful (and quick) about the whole packing process... we were so quick in fact, one of the black bears decided to hangout and watch us. He was very impressed! In the end, we got out safe and sound and un-arrested!

Just a note to our mothers (if you are not one of our mothers, do not read this section), this story is entirely made up and we would never take such a crazy risk as sleeping in the woods.

In a few weeks my family is coming out to visit/ cheer on my dad and his biking amigos who are racing in the BC bike race at the end of the month (www.bcbikerace.com). After that, We're shipping off to the Okanagan Valley to pick some cherries and live in a tent with a bunch of other pickers and tenters. Hopefully we get another update in before then!
